Lessons

How long will I have to wait for a place for my child? Where is my child on the waiting list for lessons?

Once you have applied for lessons, your child will be placed on a waiting list. Due to the high volume of applications, we are not able to provide regular updates on the waiting lists, but we will let you know as soon as a place is available. Piano is very popular, and there is usually a wait for piano lessons in most schools.

Why didn’t my child get their lesson this week?

If you have a query about a missed lesson, you can contact us at camdenmusic@camdenlearning.org.uk. We will contact the tutor.

When will the missed lesson be made up?

Please refer to our terms and conditions by clicking here.

Payments

Have I paid?

If you are unsure if you have paid, you can contact us at camdenmusic@camdenlearning.org.uk

How much do I have left on my account?

If you need to check the balance on your account, please contact us at camdenmusic@camdenlearning.org.uk

Can you use childcare vouchers to pay for music lessons?

We are not able to accept childcare vouchers as payment for music lessons.

Can I change the lesson to a shorter/ shared one to save money?

Yes, if there is someone of the same level and age waiting for a shared lesson we can change the lesson length. If there is no one to share with we can reduce the length to a minimum of 20 minutes.

Can I confirm my year 6 child will continue the lessons in their secondary school?

We contact parents in the Summer term to find out which school their child will be attending in year 7. If your child is going to a Camden school we can help ensure lessons continue.

Instruments

The guitar /violin /cello needs a new string what shall I do?

You are responsible for replacing strings. You can purchase a new string online or in a music shop. Your child’s tutor should be able to put this on for you.

What is the best make and model of instrument to buy for my child?

Your child’s tutor should be able to advise on the best instrument for your child. We can help purchase a new instrument through the Assisted Instrument Purchase scheme. Please see details here Buying a new musical instrument – Camden Council

Holiday Courses

Can I pay per course?

No. There is an annual membership fee instead. This annual fee is divided into three instalments.

Can I have a refund for a course if my child can’t attend?

No. There is an annual membership fee, and we do not charge per course.

What do I do if I want my child to move up a group?

Children progress to more advanced groups only when they are ready. Our tutors decide this.

My child hasn’t had any instrument lessons. Can they join a holiday course?

Children need to have had at least a term of lessons, either individually or in class.

How old do children need to be to come to the holiday course?

Children need to be in Year 3 or above.

What are the timings of the holiday course?

The timings are slightly different for different groups, but usually:

  • Sunday – 10 am to 4.15 pm
  • Friday – 5 pm to 7.30 pm
  • Saturday – 10 am to 3.30 pm
Does my child have to come on all three days?

Yes. This is so they are ready for the end-of-course concert!
