Camden Music was delighted that its newest community group, Saturday Steel Pans, was invited to perform at the launch of the new Camden Cultural Strategy at Inner Space, Town Hall. Launched in September 2025, Saturday Steel Pans is a group for adults who want to make music, meet new people and enjoy the energy and joy of playing in a steel band.
Rooted in Camden Music’s commitment to bringing people together through music, the group builds on the success of our two youth steel bands, which began in March 2025. There has been growing interest from adults wanting to take part, so expanding our steel pan offer was a natural next step.
We are grateful to The Clothworkers’ Foundation and Phoenix Court for funding a new set of pans, and to KOKO Foundation for its support with the start‑up costs of the youth bands. This investment means more people of all ages can access high‑quality instruments and meaningful ensemble experiences. Saturday Steel Pans is now our second adult community group, alongside our popular choir, Saturday Singers.
Since launching in September 2025, the group has rehearsed every Saturday morning at the Crowndale Centre and has brought together adults who want to reconnect with music and share a passion for pan.
At the Camden Cultural Strategy launch, the band performed Quando Quando, Hear My Cry, Nah Going Home, Monkey Man, and A Message to Rudy to a packed room of cultural partners, Arts Council England representatives and colleagues from the London Borough of Camden. It was a vibrant moment, and the Music Service was incredibly proud to see the group perform with such confidence at their very first public event.

Want to get involved?
Our youth and adult steel bands rehearse every Saturday morning at the Crowndale Centre during term time:
- Training Steel Band (Years 4–6): 9:30–10:15
- Camden Youth Steel Band (Years 7–13): 10:30–11:30
- Saturday Steel Band (Adults): 11:30–12:30
No experience needed — all young people (and adults for the community band) are welcome. Register via our online registration page.
Each academic term includes ten rehearsals and opportunities to perform.
