Supporting the next generation of teachers to teach music in their schools is a part of the work we do here at Camden Music. It is vital as it means that all members of staff in primary schools can play a part in the musical life of the school.
In November, our Primary Music Coordinator, Josh Kaye, ran a session for first-year Early Career Teachers (ECTs) at Maria Fidelis Secondary School. This training was created in collaboration with Kate Frood from Camden Learning.
The session saw ECTs from several primary schools learning about different approaches to music in the classroom and accessing a variety of resources. Josh also helped the teachers to think about how they teach singing and select repertoire.
It was a highly practical session in which the teachers took part in several warm-ups and even belted their way through ‘I’ll Survive’! The teachers all really enjoyed the session, and one said:

“The interactive activities that got everyone involved, especially the beatboxing, and how accessible and simple they were and how this can be translated to my practice – thanks so much!”
A big part of our work at Camden Music is providing CPD for teachers at every point in their career and building a musical, learning community across the borough.
