Camden Music aims to share the joy of music with young people. Bringing bands together in this public performance at the bandstand gave the young people a chance to share this further in the wider community.

Over two days in July, we had fantastic brass performances on the Bandstand at Parliament Hill and in Gospel Oak’s School hall (due to rain), showcasing the range of high-quality brass playing that is taking place across our borough.   With over 300 performers from schools and borough brass groups, the audience was treated to two days of exciting performances.

Daytime performances from Hawley, Gospel Oak, St Mary and St Pancras and Emmanuel Schools followed by a late afternoon of entertainment from Brass Exchange and Camden Youth Brass all drew an enthusiastic audience who enjoyed the lovely location as well as the entertaining programmes.

The school bands brought along pieces that they had been learning in their lessons at school with Camden Music tutors as part of our Whole Class Ensemble Tuition.  These class groups who had been learning together for one or two years showcased a range of pieces from early music to pop tunes, playing both from notation and by ear.

The late afternoon performance brought together Brass Exchange from our Saturday Centre and Camden Youth Brass, who meet at William Ellis School on Thursdays.  The grand finale of this concert was performed with both groups playing together, conducted by one of our student music scholars.
