Background to the song
Gonna Rise Up Singin’ is a Camden favourite. It has featured at a previous Albert Hall Festival and a previous Primary Choirs Festival – both a very long time ago…
How we will perform the song
The song is in two parts. In the printed music, voice 1 and voice 2 get a verse each, but we’re suggesting you learn both verses, and then on the day, we can decide if we split.
The chorus each time is in two parts, with an optional division in the higher voice, which hasn’t been included here.
The higher voice is a bit tricky with some cheeky semi-tones. Be as precise as you can – it’s the same each time it returns, except for when it modulates and we’re all singing a tone higher…
There is a lot of syncopation, which should sing itself, but please watch out for when the word “day” is sung on the on-beat (2 bars before C, 2 bars before G and in the Coda)
Don’t leave learning the ending of the song until the very end – it needs to be super-confident; maybe learn it first.
