Senior Saturday Music Centre

Our senior music centre is for pupils from year 6 to year 13. It takes place at Camden School for Girls, NW5 2DB. We offer individual lessons on a range of instruments and have many music groups to choose from.

Training Orchestra 11.15 – 12.30
This orchestra is for players of Grade 2 – 4 standard who want to play a wide variety of Western classical music. It would also suit those young musicians who have taken part in school-based whole class tuition (Whole Class Ensemble Teaching). There is a concert every term, as well as a mid-term workshop with the Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra (ERSO).

Sinfonia 11.15 – 12.30
This orchestra is for players of Grade 5+ level who wants to play Western classical music. There is a concert at the end of every term as well as a spring term workshop with the Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra (ERSO).

Camden Youth Recorder Group 11.15 – 12.30
This group is for pupils in Year 6 and above who have played the recorder for at least a year and can read music. Pupils can learn to play different sizes of recorder alongside others and play a wide range of music from pop to classical. There is a concert at the end of every term.

Chamber Music 9.00 – 10.00
This is for pupils who are grade 4+ and can read music. Pupils will improve their sight-reading and listening skills with other orchestral players of a similar level playing in small groups. String, woodwind and brass players welcome. There is a concert at the end of every term.

Guitar Group 11.15 – 12.30
For guitarists aged 11+ who would like to play music with others. The group would suit guitarists having lessons who can play chords and can read printed music. There is a concert at the end of every term.

Intermediate Jazz 11.15am – 12.30
For players aged 11-14 of Grade 2+ level who want to play with other young jazz musicians. Members improvise and play the many musical styles and traditions that influence contemporary jazz. There is a concert at the end of every term.

Advanced Jazz 9.00 – 11.00
This group is for players aged 14+ at Grade 5+ level with jazz experience who want to play with other young jazz musicians. Members improvise and play the many musical styles and traditions that influence contemporary jazz. There is a concert at the end of every term.

Camden Youth Choir 10.00 – 11.00
For pupils in Year 6 and up, and anyone can join! There is no audition. The choir is suitable for upper (higher) and changed (broken and lower) voices.

Camden Youth Chamber Choir 9.00 – 10.00
This group is for singers wanting an extra challenge. Membership is by application at the beginning of the year and involves an informal audition. Members must also sing in Camden Youth Choir.

Rock Band 10.00 – 11.00
For young musicians aged 10 to 12 who like playing and singing rock and pop music. Members create their own music as well as rehearsing and playing well-known songs. There is a concert at the end of every term.

Rock/Indie Band 11.15 – 12.30
For young musicians aged 13+ who like playing and singing contemporary popular music. Players write and perform their own music or arrange covers from an eclectic range of influences. There is a concert at the end of every term.

Junior Music-Making Collective 11.15 – 12.30
This group is for young musicians aged 10 and up. It welcomes anyone who plays an instrument, sings, or enjoys making music. The group helps build strong music skills through fun activities like improvising, working together, and creating music. It also helps boost confidence and social skills.

Music Technology 10.00 – 11.00 and 11.15 – 12.30
We run music technology classes twice every Saturday morning for musicians of any age who want to arrange and compose music using Logic Pro. This is also an excellent choice for GCSE and A Level music students who would like support with composition and sequencing.

Music Theory 10.00 – 11.00
This group is for young musicians who have completed Grade 3 theory ABRSM (or equivalent) through the Discovering Music Theory series. Students learn the written language of music with the goal of sitting an online ABRSM Grade 5 music theory exam.

One to one lessons We offer one to one 30-minute lessons, subject to availability. We have instruments available to hire if you need one, or can give advice if you would like to buy your own.
